About Samuel Labrador

A classically trained pianist and composer, he showed a great ability for improvisation from an early age, which led him to gradually enter the world of jazz, while he studied at the Conservatory. Since then he has been training in this genre practically self-taught. He currently has two albums, “Espacio” and “Tempo Presente”, composed entirely of works of his own authorship. 

Labrador has played with prestigious musicians from the national jazz scene
and international as Jeff Galindo (Jazz Festival – Ecuador 2010), Greg Badolato (Quito 2010), Jorge Pardo (Room 26 – S/C de Tenerife 2012), or Kike Perdomo (Roots Tour – 2015), and has been able to share the stage as opening act for top-level artists such as Bill Evans (Heineken Canarias jazz & Más Festival 1998), Melissa Aldana (Lago Martiánez – Pto. De La Cruz 2012), Kurt Rosenwinkel New Quartet (IV Jazz Autumn – Gran Canaria 2013), Ernie Watts (XXII Festival Heineken Canarias Jazz & Más 2013), Sharrie Williams (XXII Festival Heineken Canarias Jazz & Más 2013), or Zara Mcfarlane (XXIV Festival Heineken Canarias Jazz & Más 2015). 

Both with his trio and solo project, the pianist has given recitals
in various festivals such as Espacio Cultural El Tanque (2009), Heineken Canarias Jazz & Más (2013), Canarias Jazz-Showroom (2010-2013), Jazz Autumn (Gran Canaria 2013), La Palma Jazz Festival (2013), Auditorium of Tenerife (2014), Casa Roja Museum (La Palma 2014), Convent of San Agustín (Lanzarote 2014), or I Festival Vijazz Liceo de Taoro (La Orotava – 2015). 

In 2013 he performed with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra directed by David Firman, performing the program “The Best of Broadway & The Best of British”. 

During the 2009/10 academic year, he was coordinator of the Piano Department of the Institute of Contemporary Music of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador), integrated into the Berklee College of Boston – International Network. 

He is a member of the Latin Jazz – Fussion band “Atcheré”, a group with which he has participated in various national festivals such as the A Coruña Jazz Festival (2006), the XI Buñol Music Biennial (Valencia 2010), the Lugo (2010), or Festival Canarias Heineken Jazz & Más (1998-2015). 

Currently he combines his role as a teacher with the promotion of his recording works, and the artistic direction of the Vijazz Festival – Liceo de Taoro.
